What does the Southern Power Company have
to do with Pelzer, SC?
The Southern Power Company (S.P.Co.) was an
early power company that made some 'ground breaking' hydroelectric
power dams and transmission lines in the early 20th century. Pelzer's early
hydroelectric power is comparable with the Southern Power Companies electrical
happenings that changed the world. The S.P.Co. became well-known
for creating the worlds first power grid and is still known today as Duke Energy
(or the Duke Power Company).
